1. Physical properties

Appearance: Stainless steel wire usually has a silvery-white metallic luster and a smooth surface. This makes it more beautiful in decorative applications, such as when used to make jewelry.

Density: The density of stainless steel wire is relatively high, generally between 7.7 and 8.0 g/cm3. This means that stainless steel wire is heavier than some low-density materials in the same volume, and has advantages in applications that require a certain weight, such as in some mechanical counterweight devices.

Melting point: High, generally around 1370-1400℃. The higher melting point allows stainless steel wire to remain solid in a high-temperature environment, so that it can withstand certain high-temperature processing and use conditions, such as supporting parts in high-temperature furnaces.

Thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity of stainless steel wire is relatively low, about 16.3-22.2 W/(m·Kelvin). This feature makes it transfer heat relatively slowly when the temperature changes, which is conducive to use in some insulation or heat transfer control occasions, such as insulation parts of some thermal equipment.

Conductivity: It is not a good conductor of electricity and has low conductivity. This property of stainless steel wire can be used in some situations where static electricity or electrical insulation is required, such as in some non-conductive structural support parts of electronic equipment.

Strength and toughness: Stainless steel wire has high strength and toughness. It can withstand large tension and pressure without breaking, and can be stretched, bent and twisted into various shapes, which makes it very useful in manufacturing products such as springs and screens.

2. Chemical properties

Corrosion resistance: This is one of the most important chemical properties of stainless steel wire. Stainless steel wire contains alloy elements such as chromium (Cr), which forms a dense chromium oxide protective film on the surface of stainless steel wire. This film can prevent media such as oxygen and water from further corroding the internal metal, allowing stainless steel wire to be used for a long time in a variety of harsh environments such as humid, acidic, and alkaline. For example, in the application scenarios such as protective nets in marine environments or filters in chemical equipment, corrosion-resistant stainless steel wire can effectively resist the erosion of seawater or chemicals.

Antioxidation: Stainless steel wire has good antioxidant properties at both high and normal temperatures. In the air, it can resist the oxidation of oxygen, and even at higher temperatures, the surface oxide layer can prevent further oxidation of the metal. This property allows stainless steel wire to be used in high-temperature oxidizing environments, such as in the internal support structures of some heat treatment equipment or in the protective parts of high-temperature furnaces.

Reaction with chemicals: Stainless steel wire is relatively stable in general weak acid and alkali environments, but may react under the action of special chemicals such as strong oxidizing acids (such as concentrated nitric acid) or strong reducing acids (such as hydrofluoric acid). When using stainless steel wire, it is necessary to select the appropriate type of stainless steel wire according to the specific chemical environment to avoid chemical reactions such as corrosion.
